NAME: Hamish McCracken

AGE: 35

Occupation: Lecturer, Auckland University of Technology School of Business


Hamish has been a lecturer at the Auckland University of Technology since 2004. Currently he teaches economics, social science and employment relations in the AUT Business School . From 2004 -2006 he taught in the School of Social Sciences ; including NZ politics, The history of economic ideas and macro economic reform in New Zealand over the past 25 years. His current research is on the political economy of the New Zealand labour market.

He has worked extensively in the private sector with Unions and also with companies. He was an Industry Coordinator with the EPMU negotiating numerous employment agreements and representing the Union at CTU, academic, industry and political forums.

As National coordinator for the Plastics Industry Hamish represented the union on the board of PaMPITO, one of the countries most successful Industry Training Organisations.

He has also been involved with health research and worked as a public servant and as a factory worker.

Community Involvement

Hamish was born and raised on the shore and has been active locally through both sports coaching and the local Labour Party, he has also held a number of roles at a National level through his involvement with Industry Training and Employment Relations.
